When I was in the 5th grade, we were learning about the Underground Railroad and the choices slaves made. My teacher asked us to choose which path we would take. It was between traveling on the Underground Railroad where we would risk dying but gain freedom and remaining where we are, safe, but living miserable lives.

And then she asked who the class thought would be a a strong enough person to lead the slaves to freedom. And almost all of them pointed at me.

And in my head I was just thinking about how wrong they were because I was going to choose staying on the plantations.
